Ted Gong retired from the U.S. Foreign Service in 2009 as a Senior Foreign Service Officer (FE-OC). His assignments focused on operations and policies related to visas, border security, immigration, refugees and consular services. He is now Director of the 1882 Project Foundation, a non-profit organization that broadens public awareness and understanding of the history of Chinese in America, particularly of the civil rights significance of the Chinese Exclusion Laws.
He is President of the DC Lodge of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance and National Vice President of Policy and Public Engagement, a board member of the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans of Virginia, and an organizer of the Talk Story Events held in Chinatown Washington DC. Ted was educated at the University of California in History, University of Hawaii in Asian Studies and U.S. Army War College in National Strategic Studies.
